Cardiff Metropolitan University’s MSc in Strength and Conditioning Achieves Prestigious IUSCA Degree Accreditation

The International Universities Strength and Conditioning Association (IUSCA) is delighted to announce that Cardiff Metropolitan University’s MSc in Strength and Conditioning has been awarded IUSCA Degree Accreditation. The MSc in Strength and Conditioning at Cardiff Met is one of the longest-standing programmes of its kind in the UK, with a history of excellence spanning 13 years. Now, with the addition of IUSCA Degree Accreditation, the programme offers students the unique opportunity to graduate with an embedded IQF Level 7 practitioner certification. This internationally recognised qualification equips graduates with the skills and credentials needed to excel in the highly competitive S&C industry.

The hallmark qualities of an IUSCA Accredited International Strength and Conditioning Practitioner by Master's (aISCP*m) include:

  • The ability to utilise scientific thinking within advanced contexts in S&C

  • The ability to write and communicate with clarity and effectiveness

  • Demonstrated advanced technical abilities

  • Significant experience as a practitioner (1500 hours)

  • The ability to review and evaluate their own and others’ practice and performance

Andrew Langford, Director of the IUSCA, praised Cardiff Met’s leadership in the field, stating “Cardiff Metropolitan University was one of the first master's degrees in strength and conditioning, and it continues to set the standard for what a comprehensive degree programme should offer. With outstanding teaching, facilities, and placement opportunities, their graduates are some of the best in the industry. Now with accreditation, these graduates are ready to step directly into the profession, and Cardiff Met can cement itself as a world leader in S&C.”

The programme combines cutting-edge academic research with applied practice, offering students unparalleled access to Cardiff Met’s state-of-the-art facilities and expert faculty. Students gain a deep understanding of scientific principles and coaching methodologies, alongside extensive hands-on experience through placements and internships. Notably, recent Cardiff Met students have participated in overseas internships facilitated by the IUSCA, including placements at world-renowned institutions such as UCLA and Stony Brook University in the USA.

Jeremy Moody, Course Leader and Reader in Strength and Conditioning at Cardiff Metropolitan University, highlighted the significance of the recognition, “Gaining the accreditation for the MSc Strength and Conditioning is a significant step forward for the programme here at Cardiff Metropolitan University. The programme has been running for 13 years now; it was one of the first MSc Strength and Conditioning programmes validated in the UK, and we have seen hundreds of successful graduates from the programme. An accreditation was a significant missing part, and partnering with the IUSCA has solved this. The IUSCA are currently leading the way on this initiative in the UK, providing a seamless process that has been supportive, efficient, and effective from start to finish. The fact that our students will now be accredited and able to progress their careers working within a highly competitive industry is an incredible step forward. Students from Cardiff Metropolitan have, for a number of years, benefited from the overseas internship experiences the IUSCA make available annually, and we are looking forward to working with other IUSCA initiatives in the future.”

With this accreditation, Cardiff Metropolitan University solidifies its standing as a global leader in strength and conditioning education.
